| Job Description | RCL FOODS is seeking to employ an experienced and skilled Maintenance Foreman. This position will provide hands-on expertise and leadership of the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering staff and Maintenance Assistants, ensuring proactive maintenance, repair, and service of equipment. The role will be based at our Beverage Division in Pretoria West and report to the Operations Manager. |
| Minimum Requirements | Qualified Electrical Artisan with at least a N6 or National Diploma. In-depth understanding and execution of GMR2.1 appointee responsibilities as per the OHS Act Excellent understanding of mechanical, refrigeration and electrical engineering Experience working with packaging equipment will be an added advantage Exchange information in a clear and concise manner (both written and verbal) to senior staff and subordinates. Work flexible hours and some weekends as required. Excellent leadership skills. Thorough understanding of the Labour Relations Act. Constantly looking and finding ways to improve plant efficiency and effectiveness. Regularly reviews and monitor progress, taking action to reschedule and re-prioritise (must be able to “think on his feet”). | Duties & Responsibilities | Key Role Responsibilities Execute the GMR 2.1 responsibilities as per OHS Act Extensive experience operating and maintaining Ammonia plant Must have extensive preventative maintenance experience Experience in working with and maintaining Boilers Compiling and Management of engineering budgets Experience in Managing the maintenance department Understanding of labour relations and internal disciplinary processes Must be a hands-on foreman willing to attend to after hours and weekend call outs as per operation requirements Maintenance Develop, implement and maintain an effective preventative maintenance system for the factory equipment. Oversee major repairs of breakdowns and engineering related projects Oversee and repairs and maintenance on all other utilities Plan and manage weekend mechanical maintenance tasks and projects, based on the priority listing from the asset care plan. Utilise planned maintenance schedules to co-ordinate daily activities of Artisans and Maintenance Assistant in providing operational support. Ensure that maintenance practices and procurement processes are aligned to business standards. Develop and Implement strategies to optimise efficiencies and utilisation of all plant assets in order to minimize overall maintenance cost. Ensure that all are working according to safety regulations and ensure the enforcement of food safety requirements. Ensure that the Planner develops a work schedule for all activities to be performed. Determines material, equipment, and supplies to be used Performs work inspections and checks for completeness of tasks Plan and manage weekend maintenance tasks and projects against budget. Ensures the neatness of the buildings and premises Team Leadership Lead the maintenance team and ensure that planned maintenance programmes are implemented to enable optimal asset utilisation. Organises meetings with engineering staff and prepares inspection reports Plan and manage leave roster of engineering staff. Coach and mentor the maintenance team to improve performance and ensure development of each team member. Be available on call out and work on weekends or when necessary to ensure optimal performance of team and effective maintenance of equipment. Safety/Risk Management Ensures engineering staff follow safety rules and regulations as per organisation’s safety plan. Reporting theft and dangers on the premises. Ensures safety equipment is in good working order e.g. fire extinguishers. Ensure that security is maintained and escalate any security concerns to the processing engineering and security manager. Budgets and Administration Management of the maintenance spend against budget through daily and monthly review of budget vs. actual financial reports. Provide input to the Operational Manager to co-create and commit to an appropriate an engineering budget during the annual budgeting process. Authorise stores requisitions and provide initial sign off of invoices prior to submission to Operations Manager. Work with the Operations Manager and planner to ensure accurate reporting. Ensures that engineering staff, keep time cards and other routine records. Organises meetings with engineering staff, prepares inspection reports and action the non-conformances. Ensure that all maintenance Certificate of Compliance issued and action according to the scheduled plan and that action and task lists are recorded by the planner. Project Management Gives input to the Operations Manager on the feasibility of projects by analyzing technology, resources needs and market demands to ensure that project is feasible. Works with the Operations Manager to ensure that the requirements of internal customers are met and to prepare accurate project specification for implementation of projects. Ensure necessary manpower is available to smoothly implement projects on time and within the agreed budget. |
